Gabriel Alexander | Architecture is an accomplished design-led architectural practice based in Islington, North London.

Established by Gabriel Alexander, an ARB Registered Architect, in 2010, the practice provides a range of architectural services, including planning, feasibility and project management, with a focus on high quality design and careful consideration of the needs of the client. The practice works in and outside London, with completed projects in Suffolk, Essex and Cambridge, and more locally in Islington, Camden, Haringey and Barnet.

ETHOS

Gabriel Alexander | Architecture takes a ‘project specific’ approach to architectural design which responds to the individual requirements of the client and the context of the project. The design solution is determined by careful consideration of the functional and spatial demands of the project, and the surrounding context in which it is being built – whether this is an existing building structure or a wider environment. This approach is taken to projects large and small, and to all stages of the project design - from the initial building concept to the detailing and specification of the fittings and finishes.

ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AND EXPERTISE

Gabriel Alexander | Architecture works on a range of project types at all scales, including new build, extensions and alterations to existing buildings, building refurbishment, interior fit-out and furniture design.

The practice provides the full range of architectural services which covers all project stages, from concept design and feasibility through to completion of construction, including planning and Listed Building consents, construction detailing and project procurement and management. The practice is familiar with working in conjunction with other related consultants (structural engineers, quantity surveyors and planning consultants etc.) and with running a project design team. When required, more specialist knowledge is drawn on from construction industry specialists to develop specific design solutions, whether it is for bespoke construction detail or a specialist finish.

The practice also has extensive experience of working in a heritage context, including carrying out works to Listed Buildings and numerous projects in Conservation Areas, including Hampstead Garden Suburb in London and Woodbridge in Suffolk.

BACKGROUND

Gabriel Alexander has over 30 years’ industry experience, having first worked in private practice for his father in the early 1990s. After studying architecture at the universities of Manchester and Westminster, Gabriel was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction in 1996 and subsequently completed his professional training to become a Registered Architect in 1998.

Prior to establishing his practice in 2009, Gabriel worked for Peter Inskip + Peter Jenkins Architects and for Eva Jiricna Architects. During this time Gabriel worked on a number of high-profile public projects, including the redevelopment of the Embankment Wing at Somerset House by Inskip + Jenkins in the late 1990s, and the refurbishment of the Grand Entrance and shop at the Victoria and Albert Museum by Eva Jiricna in the early 2000s.

Whilst working for Peter Inskip + Peter Jenkins Architects, Gabriel gained extensive experience of working on Listed Buildings and in current heritage and conservation practices. His time with Peter Jenkins also informed his approach to a contemporary modern aesthetic combined with a rigorous testing of ideas and honing of the design concept.

At Eva Jiricna Architects, Gabriel gained experience in shop fitting, working with specialist fabricators and manufacturers on highly detailed bespoke interiors and fittings. Eva Jiricna’s design approach, which considers the ‘detail’ as being of fundamental importance to the whole, is something which Gabriel has sought to bring into his own work.
