TOTTERIDGE GREEEN

A garden room addition to a Georgian cottage in the Totteridge Conservation Area, Barnet, London.

The brief was to provide a simple modern extension with a new kitchen and utility room, and a dining space opening onto the garden. The extension has a structural timber frame in seasoned Doughlas Fir, which was prefabricated in Devon to our design by Emanuel Hendry and assembled on site as a 'kit of parts'. A lantern with clerestory windows creates a focus for the dining space and admits light into the back of the room, whilst large glazed timber sliding doors provide access to the garden.

The finishes are natural and the detailing is simple and modern, with frameless glazing inset directly into the Douglas Fir frame - a contemporary interpretation of the straightforward and unfussy architecture of the original Georgian house.
